Name
The Order of Care: Applying PEMDAS to Tourette Syndrome and Co-Occurring Conditions
Date & Time
Saturday, June 13, 2026
Kenneth W. Phelps, Ph.D., LMFT
Description

In this interactive talk, the presenter explores the order of operations in treating Tourette Syndrome (TS) and its co-occurring conditions. Just as math has PEMDAS, comprehensive care for TS demands a structured hierarchy — safety first, engagement second, then systematic progression through mood, anxiety, and tic-related domains. Using real-world cases, attendees will learn how to triage clinical priorities, prevent therapeutic dead-ends, and apply flexible sequencing when ADHD, OCD, rage, anxiety, or other concerns intersect with tics. This framework helps clinicians balance neurobiological and behavioral interventions while preserving motivation, safety, and momentum in complex presentations.
